Bakery on Main Officially Non-GMO Verified

It has always been important for Bakery on Main to use non-GMO ingredients in their products.  However, it wasn’t until just recently that they were verified non-GMO by a third party, the Non-GMO Project.

More about the Non-GMO Project:

The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit multi-stakeholder collaboration committed to preserving and building sources of non-GMO products, educating consumers, and providing verified non-GMO choices. We believe that everyone deserves an informed choice about whether or not to consume genetically modified organisms.

The Non-GMO Project is governed by a Board of Directors. We also work with a collaborative network of technical and communications advisers from all backgrounds and sectors.

What are GMOs?  GMO = genetically modified organism.  GMOs are plants or animals that are created by genetic engineering.  According the to press release from Bakery on Main,  it is estimated that more than 80% of the packaged products in the US & Canada contain GMOs.  I really started paying more attention to this in the past year when my step dad, Joe, worked hard to eliminate all GMOs from his diet.  I was shocked to see how many things I had in my pantry & fridge most likely contain GMOs, specifically corn.  Here is a partial list of foods that potentially contain GMOs.  Thought following the gluten-free diet is hard?  Add GMOs into that mix.

In addition to now being certified Non-GMO, Bakery on Main’s products are also certified gluten-free, dairy & casein-free and Kosher OU Parve.  More from Bakery on Main:

Bakery On Main employees also feel passionate about the issue and have taken the initiative to start a Non-GMO group in the local area on a volunteer basis. The mission of the grroup is to educate others about the risks of GMO’s in our foods as well as the importance of GMO labeling.

The Bakery on Main product line is made up of some pretty awesome products.  I am a huge fan of their soft & chewy granola bars, True Bars and instant oatmeal.  Here is the list of Bakery on Main’s products:

Bakery on Main products can be purchased in many health food & grocery stores across the US and online.  Do you have a favorite Bakery on Main product?  Do you try to eat food that is non-GMO?
