Gluten-free Dining & Travel Club Announces New Trip

Bob & Ruth’s Gluten-Free Dining & Travel Club is a dream come true for the gluten-free jet set crowd. So far, we’ve not been able to swing a Gluten-free Getaway, but I hope one day we can enjoy one of their spectacular destination trips. Just reading about past trips reassures one that gluten-free travel is not only possible, it can be delicious as well!

Some people in Atlanta went on Bob & Ruth’s Grand Orient Tour Gluten-free Getaway in 2006. The lady I spoke to about it  reported that they loved it, and that the gluten-free meals served throughout the trip were excellent! Due to the language barrier, Asia is one place even I would not go without a tour. I would not want to spend the trip worrying about explaining my dietary needs for each meal. That would really not be much of a vacation at all.

Last year, one of the Getaways was a Mediterranean Cruise where Dr. Alessio Fasano was in attendance. I can only imagine how fabulous that trip must have been. Having a world renowned celiac expert who happens to be from Italy – on a trip that included a tour of Italy – had to be a very special treat indeed!

When enjoying gluten-free pizza at Mozzarelli’s in NYC on vacation last May, we met a couple that was also on vacation. You can spot the gluten-free diners there as the gluten-free pizza is not pie shaped, but rectangular instead. As we enjoyed some of the best gluten-free pizza in NYC, the couple told us about a trip they’d taken with Bob & Ruth’s Travel Club.

The couple had gone on the African Safari Gluten-free Getaway, I believe in 2006. The wife has celiac so her food was gluten-free but the husband was to eat the “normal” food. After several meals where the wife raved about the gluten-free food, the husband asked if he could have gluten-free meals for the remainder of the trip. Whoever was in charge told him yes, so he found out first hand how excellent the gluten-free meals were. That is proof enough for me that the gluten-free food on that trip was superb!

Bob and Ruth just announced an exciting trip – Tulips & the Romantic Rhine, a Gluten-free Getaway Cruise / Tour. The trip is April 21-30th, 2010. Check out this excerpt from the trip details on Bob & Ruth’s website:

Explore the art, history and culture of some of Europe’s most celebrated cities including Amsterdam with its famous Anne Frank House, the Rembrandt Museum and the Diamond house. The village of Nimegue, of world soccer league fame, is also home to the Kroller-Muller Museum displaying seldom-seen works of Picasso, Van Gogh and others. Cruise the most charming stretch of the Rhine with castles and chateaux along the banks of the river. Read full trip details here.

For a trip that’s a little more budget friendly, check out the upcoming Club Med Cancun trip.

Traditional Mexican decor adds spice to beautiful rooms, a welcoming reception area, open-air nightclub, restaurants with expansive views of the sea and lagoon and the festive main bar. We’ll be wined, dined and entertained in casual elegance. At EVERY meal specially – prepared and purchased Gluten-free items will be set before us. Pizza, muffins, cakes, french-fries, fruit pies, cracked conch, conch chowder and much, much more – Gluten-free! Read the rest of the trip information here.

Other upcoming trips include a visit to the Galapagos Islands and Machu Picchu, an Alaskan Cruise and Tour and even a trip down the Nile in Egypt! If you love to travel but staying gluten-free while doing so seems overwhelming, check out what Bob and Ruth have to offer our community!
