California Pizza Kitchen Brings Back Gluten-Free Pizza

California Pizza Kitchen first debuted gluten-free pizza on their menu early in 2011.  The problem?  They weren’t taking any precautions to minimize cross contamination risks.  The pizza was subsequently pulled off of the menu.  I had heard they would most likely bring gluten-free pizza back once they could figure out how to do it right.  It seems that time is now.

As I was browsing through my email after my run this morning, I saw an email from Gluten-Free Philly about California Pizza Kitchen, so I headed to the CPK website right away.  There are four gluten-free pizza options that are made on a certified gluten-free crust.

  • The Original BBQ Chicken Pizza – Our legendary BBQ sauce, smoked Gouda, red onions and cilantro transform this original to iconic+ Nueske’s applewood smoked bacon.
  • Pepperoni – America’s favorite pizza. Trust us…we checked online 😉 A combination of rustic and spicy pepperoni with fresh Mozzarella and wild oregano + White truffle oil
  • Mushroom Pepperoni Sausage – Cremini mushrooms, rustic pepperoni, spicy Italian sausage, torn basil, Mozzarella and wild oregano. We like to call it “MuPeSa” (mup-suh).
  • Margherita – The classic. Italian tomatoes with fresh Mozzarella, basil and Parmesan.

More about the crust and procedure:

These gluten-free pizzas are prepared using the strict procedures approved by The Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG), using a certified gluten-free crust and other ingredients verified by our suppliers as gluten-free. Please inform a manager of any allergies or special dietary needs (e.g. gluten intolerance) before ordering.

Fortunately we have a California Pizza Kitchen right up the street, so I can assure you that we will be trying the new gluten-free pizza soon.  To see where the closest CPK restaurant to you is, visit the website store locator.
