If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, you are probably aware of the growing number of iPhone applications which were built to help the Celiac community. In fact, we just covered the iEatOut application last week, and the Celiac Smartlist awhile before that. Each one seems to offer something different, and some are better than others, but probably the best and most popular gluten-free application currently among the Celiac community is the Is That Gluten Free? application!
The Is that Gluten Free? application was designed to assist with grocery shopping, but can assist you in just about any situation where you need to know if an ingredient is gluten-free. Here is the complete feature list taken from the designer of the app:

The best part about this new application is that it has been getting a number of great reviews from users who have the application, which is what initially grabbed my attention. The designers also have one key thing I look for when considering a product. They seem to be releasing regular updates to their application, accept feedback for potential improvements, and answer questions about the application. As of today, the full application is available for $5.99.
Note: The designers website says the Is That Gluten Free? application is also available in a Lite version, but I was unable to find it in the iTunes store.

Thank you for the great review. I wanted to comment on the “Note” above. We have been contemplating the release of a LITE version and our website indicated that this is “Coming Soon.” This would be a free download, allowing you to “test drive” the App before purchasing the full version. We are not sure that this will make a difference to people as it will have limited functionality. We welcome your feedback. Thanks again.
All these gluten-free iPhone apps are making me wish for an iPhone more than ever….and I’m not a gadget person. I don’t want to be “connected” all the time. But when you’re gluten-free, some times you have to be!
