Fabulous Muffins from American Gra-Frutti

At the recent gluten-free fair in Atlanta, I was fortunate to leave with a goodie box from American Gra-Frutti. The Peachtree Pimento cheese spread (made without mayo) from the line is addictive and what I use to make cheese grits with these days. The fruit cake and the “They’ll never know cake” cakes from the company are simply divine. You can read more about those items here.

American Gra-Frutti has created three new gluten-free muffins. Actually, they are free of dairy and soy as well. What I loved before even opening them is the fact that they are individually wrapped. I immediately thought about how perfect the muffins would be for travel. Obviously, if the muffins didn’t pass the taste test, there would not be any reason for me to pack them for trips. Knowing how much I enjoyed other items from the company, I was not really concerned about the taste or texture of the new muffins.

Sure enough, the huge muffins lived up to the standards that American Gra-Frutti has set for their product line. We tried all three flavors and of course, my husband bonded with the Sweet Potato muffin. He’s never met a sweet potato anything he didn’t love. It was hard for me to choose a favorite between the Blueberry and Apple Cinnamon muffins as each was delicious. All three options were perfectly textured and were something you could easily serve gluten eaters. Unless you told them the muffins were gluten, dairy and soy-free, they’d never now the difference!

Several years back, I found out about a company that sold individually packaged gluten-free muffins. I used to keep a stock of them in the freezer for unexpected trips. That bakery closed down a while back and since then, I’ve not found individually wrapped muffins that I liked enough to buy twice. With the discovery of these new muffins from American Gra-Frutti, I now have a new breakfast option for traveling. And as much as I enjoyed the muffins from the bakery that closed, these muffins are on a whole different level!

Certain countries don’t allow opened containers of food through customs. Others have been known to sneak them through, but we are not willing to try such tactics. That is why we always pack small individually wrapped items whenever possible when traveling to areas that might have limited gluten-free food shopping options. I don’t mind it when security goes through all my belongings (well, I mind a little bit), but I’m going to mind it a lot if they make me throw out my precious gluten-free food. Most countries will allow sealed containers of shelf stable foods in without issue.

Even when we travel in the U.S., if we’re traveling by plane, I like to pack my own snacks for the duration of the trip. Packing individually wrapped muffins to supplement my breakfasts is a great option to have. Many items from this line are available at Whole Foods in their South Region (which doesn’t cover the whole South but oddly reaches beyond it) and also at some health food stores in Atlanta.

Presently, Return to Eden is the only store that has the new muffins, but we’re hoping to be able to buy them OTP very soon. South region Whole Foods locations can order them now so if people ask for them, they should be able to get them. Shepherd Center in Atlanta also has them. Outside this area the muffins are available at Wildflower Health and Nutrition in Jasper, GA and Goodwells Natural Foods Market in Detroit.

Atlantans can also enjoy some treats from American Gra-Frutti at the Georgia Dome (club level). For those outside this area, you can purchase some American Gra-Frutti items online. Follow their Facebook page to keep up on all their exciting news, including several new products that are rolling out soon!

*Special thanks to Marilyn at American Gra-Frutti for my tasting samples. As always, I enjoy being one of your test tasters for new products!
