Anyone who has been diagnosed with Celiac Disease for awhile knows, gluten is everywhere. Outside of foods, gluten is also found in many over the counter products (including hair and skin products), it is found when licking envelopes, etc. But what about when you visit the dentist? Do they use gluten free products?
The Celiac Chic recently discussed her visit to the dentist and provided the following advice:
When you make a dental appointment dont forget to tell the receptionist (and remind her if you told her last visit) that you are a Celiac and that you need them to use gluten free products on you. I dont know if all dentists carry gluten free products, Im lucky in the fact that mine does. Check with your dentist, if he doesnt carry them then ask for the name of what he does carry and contact the manufacturer yourself before your appointment. If it is gluten containing and your dentist wont order a non gluten item then find a new dentist!!
Although you have told the receptionist that you are a Celiac and need gluten free products it is always wise to tell the hygenist as well before they do any work on you, you can never be too careful!
Have you ever taken precautions when visiting the dentist?
