Whenever someone is newly diagnosed with celiac disease, the first thing I always recommend is to locate and join a local celiac support group. The transition to the extremely strict gluten-free diet is difficult for most people and having local people in your area who have already gone through what you are going through is extremely important.
These days pretty much all major cities in the United States as well as many areas with smaller populations have a celiac support group, you just have to know how to find them! In an effort to make celiac support groups more findable, last year we launched our
celiac support group directory, which makes it really easy for anyone to find a group in their local area. The directory breaks all the support groups included in the index into country and state categories, then refers you directly to the official support group website to get details on how to join.
If you know of any celiac support groups missing from our index, please let a comment below or you can easily submit your support group
here!
