Was it Hard For You to Get Diagnosed?

They say it takes an average of five years to get successfully diagnosed with celiac disease, with many misdiagnoses happening before hand. Hopefully this is improving as awareness grows, but for some of the veteran celiacs I'm sure that wasn't the case.

How long did it take you to get diagnosed once symptoms presented themselves? (See the poll above)

I was diagnosed as a celiac through a medical procedure, whilst they were looking for some other problem. I had an endoscopy because I was suffereing from heart burn and the gp thought that I had a stomach ulcer. Luckily I did not have an ulcer, but the report came back saying that all my villi was damaged and that I should look down the path of celiac. At that stage I did not even know what it was all about so I was on a very steep learning curve.

I have since started writin theis web site www.gf-glutenfree.com to pass on my information to other sufferes and to give them some good general information. I know that there is a lot of medical sites available to read but not good common senc=se day-to-day information. Enjoy
