Did you know that General Mills owned the company that makes Larabars? Until today, I certainly did not. All MyBlogSpark members received an e-mail from the company about their ‘hot off the press’ gluten-free website and newsletter, Live Gluten Freely. When I opened the new site I saw Larabar listed as a General Mills company. That might explain why Larabars bars keep popping up in ‘swag bags’ at major award shows.
General Mills has six product lines with labeled gluten-free products including:
- Betty Crocker Dessert Mixes
- Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks
- CHEX Cereals
- Larabar
- Progresso Soups
- Yoplait Yogurts
The company has put together a list of all their gluten-free items, but at least two soups are missing from the line up. Both the Creamy Mushroom and Potato, Broccoli and Cheese Chowder soups from Progresso are now labeled gluten-free which you can see on the main Progresso website. However, neither of those soups are listed on the new General Mills gluten-free product list.

Celebration Trifle
The Live Gluten Freely newsletter will be sent out periodically and is FREE to sign up for. They will be adding gluten-free recipes and gluten-free items to the product list as it expands. This is such exciting news that one of the top five food companies in the U.S. is paying this much attention to our market!
With all the work General Mills is doing to make sure they get their fair (or more than fair!) share of the guten-free pie, you have to wonder how long the other big food companies are going to wait before jumping on the gluten-free bandwagon full force. Kraft and ConAgra might label all forms of gluten on their products, but most gluten-free consumers prefer to see the words ’gluten free’ on the products they purchase, when possible. Thank you General Mills for proving what we already knew. We are without question a market to be reckoned with and recognized!

Thank you General Mills for expanding your gluten free products and labeling your existing ones! Now to bring all those products to Canada…
