While browsing YouTube today, I always like to take a moment and do a quick search to see what new Celiac Disease or gluten free diet videos have been posted. What I found is an incredible video (though an entire hour long!) by Dr. Fasano covering the history of Celiac Disease at a seminar back in 2007. For your reference, Dr. Fasano is the director of the Center for Celiac Research at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore.
One of the most interesting stories from the video is that of Barbara Hudson, who was originally diagnosed back in 1938 with Celiac Disease (and was told she would outgrow the disease). The Celiac diagnosis required Barbara to follow the banana diet, earning her the nickname “banana baby.” The last 13 minutes of the video addresses the future of Celiac Disease and current research.
