Cross-contamination can be one of the biggest enemies of someone with celiac disease, making both preparing and cooking foods in a gluten-free environment extremely important. If you aren’t familiar with Kinnikinnick, they offer a popular line of gluten-free foods and operate a dedicated gluten-free facility which includes all gluten-free equipment.
The following video shows the tear down and gluten decontamination of waffle equipment purchased by Kinnikinnick Foods and explains why having dedicated gluten-free equipment is so important to their business model, and to the health of their customers. Enjoy the video! (The video is only about 2 minutes long)

I enjoyed the video, but I would have appreciated seeing the equipment AFTER it had been decontaminated.
I love the KK waffles but what’s shown in this video is exactly why we can’t have gluten-free waffles in restaurants – unless they have a dedicated waffle iron or it’s a 100% gluten-free restaurant. At least we can have pancakes here and a French toast casserole at the J. Christophers in Marietta, GA.
