Introduction to The Crawley Gluten Free Group, UK

This is a brief introduction to our UK Gluten-Free Group, which my wife, Dodie and I (Don) founded in 2007. We now have around 100 members, a reasonable bank balance, 2 grants from our local Council, a free web site, with 1 sponsor, which has to date been opened by 121 different countries, the UK with the most hits, USA second, Australia third and China fourth, a listing of these countries appears on our web site.

The Crawley Gluten Free Group meets every month, I personally run the whole operation, well it gives me something to do and a reason for getting up each day, we have a regular supply of Gluten-Free Suppliers, who like the opportunity to meet real people, who use their products. They provide us with boxes and boxes of free samples, which we raffle to pay our monthly small running costs, nobody gets paid, but we do incur expenses, like hire of the hall, insurance etc. We also have managed to negotiate with a local Fish & Chip shop, who go totally gluten free once a month, all day.

Since my wife went onto her strict gluten free diet, she has re-started teaching Tap Dancing, every week.

Our town called Crawley, United Kingdom is in the county of West Sussex, and is within 5 minutes drive South of London’s second airport, it has a population of around 100,000 people and the town is very dependant on work from the airport.

Our web site has 90+ gluten free recipes, soon we will be adding pictures of these items. On our site there are many pictures of our meetings, each month we produce a Newsletter, now on our 30th Issue, all are posted and we have some super testimonials, including  the US.

If you have any questions about how we work, open the site and click onto the reply and I will do my best to answer, we are not medical experts, but our knowledge of what to eat and how to keep fit is now very extensive. There is a short video, which does explain the problems caused by gluten, if anyone has a better video, then  please share it with us.

Oh man! Would have loved to have gf fish and chips over there in 2006. We found no such thing in London but I know you are not in London. We did convince one place here to do beer battered fish and chips for us this year. They even used Bard’s Tale instead of Redbridge which was nice. It was fabulous!
