Mother Uses GFCF Diet to Conquer Autism

I know this website tends to focus on Celiac Disease and the gluten free diet that treats it, but it has been a very slow news day today, so I decided to point everyone towards a great story over at the Detroit Free Press.

The story is about a woman who has been using the GFCF (gluten-free, casein-free) diet to treat her son’s autism.   It looks like she put her son on the diet when he was about 18 months old, and after years on the diet, he now functions fairly normally and even attends school with the other normal children.

Here is a small excerpt from their post:

Sam was 16 months old when he was diagnosed with autism, a neurological disorder.

Within weeks of putting her son on a special diet that she learned about through her research, Summers began to see signs of improvement.

By the time he was 3 1/2, doctors no longer categorized him as autistic. Since kindergarten, he has attended regular classes in a regular school.

This is just one of many stories related to treating Autism with a GFCF diet and goes to show that we are making progress in our battle against Autism.  It also goes to show that the gluten free diet is more than just a treatment for Celiac Disease!
