Once again, the NFCA (National Foundation for Celiac Awareness) brings us a timely webinar based on how to maintain a gluten-free diet during the holidays. Visiting family & friends who don’t know how to feed us safely is always a concern at this time of year.
If you haven’t had a chance to browse the NFCA’s website, try to take some time to do so. There is just a wealth of information on the site. In addition to multiple resources, there are lists of symptoms for those who may be questioning whether or not they have Celiac Disease.
The webinar will take place on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 1:00 PM EST. Leading the webinar will be panelist Margaret Weiss Masiello, RD. Weiss has an impressive resume which includes working as a clinical dietitian for Robert Wood Johnson University, the ALS Foundation of Greater New York and as a consultant to many grocery store chains regarding Celiac Disease and the gluten-free diet. A little more about Weiss:
Margaret Weiss Masiello, RD, graduated with a BA in Psychology from William Smith College, studied Nutrition at the College of Saint Elizabeth, and completed her Dietetic Internship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She also holds a Certificate in Adult Weight Management from the Commission on Dietetic Registration. In addition to her practice as The Mobile Dietitian, Margaret is currently the Clinical Coordinator for the Kogan Celiac Center of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System.
The webinar, which lasts 1 hour, will cover tips for sticking to the gluten-free diet, identify reasons why the diet may be harder to follow during the winter holiday months, provide examples of temptations, explain the consequences of cheating, both short & long term and offer solutions to keep those temptations at bay.
The webinar is free of cost to any who wish to participate. Click here to register. This would be a good bit of education for friends and family that may be preparing food for gluten-free family members.
