Welcome to August! I can’t believe it is almost time for the kids to head back to school. Eating gluten-free at college can be a challenge, but thanks to the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA), it just got a little easier.
The Gluten-Free College Tool Kit can be downloaded directly from the NFCA website for free and is full of helpful information to help navigate the college scene. Jon is a senior this year, so he will head off to college a little over a year from now. I am probably much more nervous about him eating gluten-free at college than he is.
The thirteen page guide covers some great topics, including:
- Policies and Procedures – Finding support on campus, knowing your rights and such.
- Dorm Room Considerations – Dorm-friendly gluten-free foods and what to do if your roommate isn’t gluten-free.
- Gluten-Free Shopping Tips
In addition to the tool kit, there is a “Gluten-Free in College Blog Series” to help further guide college students and their parents.
The most beneficial part about this resource is being able to share it with your college student. I know my son tends to listen to other people over me when it comes to certain things, so the more information I can send his way, the better. It is also helpful that the blog series is written by college students that are living the gluten-free life.
Do you have any tips for gluten-free college living?
