Pittsburgh Pirates to Host Celiac Disease Awareness Day

Residents of Pennsylvania take note!   It appears that the Pittsburgh Pirates are set to hold a Celiac Disease Awareness Day fundraising event at PNC Park on September 27, 2009 (tomorrow).   This event includes a gluten-free portable stand which will serve hot dog and gluten-free buns, Lays potato chips, salads with Italian dressing, nachos with salsa, Fruiticanna fruit smoothies, peanuts, soda, and of course Redbridge beer.

According to what I’ve read, all proceeds will benefit the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America (GIG), the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA), and the Celiac Sprue Association (CSA).

I know it is late notice, but if you’d like to attend the event, here are the details:

  • When: Sunday, September 27, 2009 at 1:35 p.m.
  • Who: Pittsburgh Pirates vs. LA Dodgers
  • Where: Fan Appreciation Day at PNC Park
  • How Much?: Outfield Box: $20.00 ($5.00 is donated) or L/R Grandstand: $12.00 ($2.00 is donated)

You can also find more information about this event here, courtesy of Gluten Free Works.

In addition to increasing awareness for celiac disease and supporting local organizations in the area, events like these are great ways to show sports teams just how many people benefit from them offering gluten-free products at their events, so please make an effort to attend if you live in the area!
