There are many reasons people are on the gluten-free diet these days. I’ve met people who say it helps their arthritis and others who say it keeps their kid’s ADD at bay. Obviously, people with celiac disease are supposed to be on the diet, but there are certainly non-compliant patients just as with those other problems that require a special diet.
There are only a few hundred thousand people diagnosed with celiac in the U.S. which would hardly account for the astounding gluten-free market growth. That fact got me wondering about the various reasons people are on the gluten-free diet. Please vote on our poll below. If the reason you’re on the diet isn’t listed, leave a comment explaining your situation.

I believe you left one other category out. I was tested by Entrolabs.com, found positive for Celiac through each of their test and I have the DNA Gene for Celiac. The malabsorption was so of the charts that there was no way you could deny the fact. So, I did n’ot feel that I need any other test to prove the fact. Having the DNA for Celiac is more than enough for me to stop eating Gluten. I just wish some Doctor had told me I had the DNA Gene years ago, when I was in my 20s. I am now 53, and have suffered with several Autoimmune disease, which I believe were most likely caused from the celiac, which is also an autoimmune disease too. Why don’t doctors, connect to the dot. I guess I wasn’t skinny enough for them to even think the possibility of Celiac, but Hashimotos Thyroid disease makes it hard to stay skinny even know I am malabsorping fats, mineral and vitamins from my food. AND yes, I watch everything that goes into my mouth.
