Greek yogurt has been all the rage for a while now. It is thicker than normal yogurt, has more protein, less lactose & fewer carbs. Why is this? The whey is removed from the yogurt by straining it and a thicker, more creamy yogurt remains. Oikos is the first certified organic Greek yogurts and is one of my favorites on the market. They have plain, blueberry, strawberry, honey, vanilla and the newest – chocolate & caramel.
The chocolate & caramel yogurts come in the 4-packs.
The chocolate yogurt has 110 calories, 10 grams of protein and a respectable ingredient list:
CULTURED PASTEURIZED ORGANIC NONFAT MILK, ORGANIC SUGAR, ORGANIC COCOA, PECTIN, NATURAL FLAVOR, ORGANIC CAROB BEAN GUM. CONTAINS FIVE LIVE AND ACTIVE CULTURES INCLUDING L. ACIDOPHILUS, BIFIDUS, AND L. CASEI.
The caramel yogurt also has 110 calories, 10 grams of protein and great ingredients:
CULTURED PASTEURIZED ORGANIC NONFAT MILK, ORGANIC SUGAR, NATURAL FLAVOR, PECTIN, CARRAGEENAN. CONTAINS FIVE LIVE AND ACTIVE CULTURES INCLUDING L. ACIDOPHILUS, BIFIDUS, AND L. CASEI.
The chocolate yogurt is very good, though not as sweet as I thought it would be. It is great paired with fresh fruit and cereal for breakfast, especially with that nice dose of protein!
The caramel yogurt is much sweeter, more like a treat or dessert. I loved these little cups of heaven. These are great topped with a few Hershey’s Special Dark chocolate chips and a dollop of whipped cream.
Oikos can be found in grocery stores across the country. Click here for a coupon to use on Oikos yogurt. Have you tried the newest flavors of Oikos yet? Check out my blog for a Chocolate Indulgence giveaway that ends on August 6, 2010.
