Review: Dos Pistolas Salsa & Mango-Jalapeno Sauce

I love summer for many reasons.  One of those reasons is the abundance of salsa.  I have seen so many new salsas debut on the market this year, not to mention making your own with homegrown tomatoes.

I recently had the opportunity to sample some salsas made by Dos Pistolas.  I had never heard of this brand before, so I was excited to see what they had to offer.  I received both the mango-jalapeno and the all natural green gourmet salsas to try.  First a little about Dos Pistolas:

History

Dos Pistolas Salsa was reproduced in the kitchen of “Cafe El Paso”, a local Colorado Springs Mexican restaurant.

The salsa is the result of hundreds of years and generations of an old Hispanic family recipe; a closely guarded secret.

Sandra (Santoscoy) Sherer and her husband Paul decided to share her rich traditions with the public and made thse wonderful products available.

Her labor of love and family became a whirlwind which created a new company, many friends, new jobs and a successful business.

The home cooked, natural flavors of these salsas, sauces and marinades are a gift from rich family tradition to maintain your family tradition.

Mango Jalapeno – Dos Pistolas Mango-Jalapeno Sauce was created to bring you the age old flavor of El Paso Texas. The recipe has been passed down generation after generation. It is also gluten free, all natural, low calorie, fat and cholesterol free, with low sodium and is also a good source of Vitamin C and fiber.

Green Gourmet – Dos Pistols All Natural Green Gourmet Salsa. This tasty salsa is gluten free, all natural, and the only salsa endorsed by The American Heart Association. It’s low calorie, fat and cholesterol free, with low sodium and is also a good source of Vitamin C and fiber.

I first sampled the mango jalapeno salsa.  I don’t think I was expecting it to be as spicy as it was, probably due to the “mango” in the name.  This salsa was fantastic and really spicy, but I like spicy food.  I have eaten this in many different ways over the past week – on a baked potato, on eggs, on a burger and even on a Mexican pizza.  I love that is different!  The green gourmet salsa went great on my tacos and also mixed with black beans and quinoa.

Both of the salsas made by Dos Pistolas are gluten-free, low calorie, fat & cholestrol free.  This is the perfect way to add some flavor to your food without compromising the nutritional status of your meal.

Dos Pistolas salsas can be purchased on their website here.  The green gourmet salsa is $4.99 and the mango-jalapeno is $5.99.   I love that the checkout is through Paypal, which gives the buyer an opportunity to use a credit card or Paypal balance.

Have you had a chance to try these salsas yet?  They would make a great housewarming gift or even a nice part of a care package for someone who is newly gluten-free.  What is your go-to salsa?  Do you make your salsa from scratch?

***I received the products reviewed in this post free of charge.  The opinions stated here are mine and have not been influenced by anyone or anything.
