Review: el’s Snaps Bagel Chips

Bagels and bagel chips were some of my favorite foods to eat as I was growing up and in my young adult years.  When I began the gluten-free diet there weren’t many gluten-free bagel choices and there were no bagel chips on the market.  Sure, there were plenty of other foods I could eat, but there is something that happens in my head when you tell me I can’t have something.  That desired item becomes even more desirable.

Just under two years ago I had the opportunity to sample some unique snacks from el’s.  el’s Medleys are what I call a Chex-like mix on steroids. The Medleys contain a mix of crunchy snack favorites including pretzels, corn chips, corn nuts and bagel chips.  While the Medleys are pretty amazing, I have a habit of picking out just the bagel chips, or as el’s calls them, “Snaps”.  Fortunately for me el’s makes just Snaps so people like me can get our fix.  The original Snaps were made in a Simply Sea Salt flavor, but now they are available in 2 new flavors – Cinnamon & Sugar and Garlic & Herb.

el’s Snaps are certified gluten-free, non-GMO, free of eggs, peanuts/nuts, dairy and soy and come in at 100 calories or less per serving.

Simply Sea SaltContains: Gluten Free Flour Base (sorghum flour, tapioca flour, white rice flour, sweet rice flour, brown rice flour, organic evaporated cane sugar, chicory root, millet flour, molasses & honey, rice bran, sea salt, xanthan gum, active dry yeast), Water, expeller-pressed non-GMO Canola Oil, Flax Seed, Sea Salt.

Cinnamon & SugarContains: Gluten Free Flour Base (sorghum flour, tapioca flour, white rice flour, sweet rice flour, brown rice flour, organic evaporated cane sugar, chicory root, millet flour, molasses & honey, rice bran, sea salt, xanthan gum, active dry yeast), Water, expeller-pressed non-GMO Canola Oil, Flax Seed, Cane Sugar, Cinnamon.

Garlic & HerbContains: Gluten Free Flour Base (sorghum flour, tapioca flour, white rice flour, sweet rice flour, brown rice flour, organic evaporated cane sugar, chicory root, millet flour, molasses & honey, rice bran, sea salt, xanthan gum, active dry yeast), Water, expeller-pressed non-GMO Canola Oil, Flax Seed, Garlic, Sea Salt, Basil, Rosemary, Oregano, Thyme.

I think the Snaps were in my house for all of 10 minutes before I opened all three bags for sampling.  I love each and every variety!  The Simply Sea Salt have just enough seasoning and would be perfect for dipping in salsa, guacamole or hummus.  The Cinnamon & Sugar Snaps are lightly sweetened and make a great morning or afternoon snack or dessert.   The Garlic & Herb Snaps have the perfect blend of Italian seasoning and would pair nicely with fresh mozzarella.  Perhaps I can use the Snaps as a base and pile on a thin slice of fresh mozzarella, basil leaf, sliced grape tomatoes and then drizzle with a balsamic vinaigrette.  Yum! el’s Snaps are available in stores across the US and online for $4.49/bag.

Have you tried el’s Snaps?  Which variety is your favorite?
