Sandwich Petals by Raquelita’s Tortillas are new gluten-free flatbreads that come in three flavors. When my sample box arrived, I was delighted to read that the product was shelf stable for 30 days. Gluten Free Dee tends to work with companies that have excellent gluten-free products so anything she sends out to be reviewed is worth my time, no doubt.
The first Sandwich Petals flavor I tried was the Agave Grain. I made a breakfast wrap out of it with scrambled cheese and eggs. Though a whole flatbread was a little much for me at breakfast, most people would consider it a perfect size. The taste and texture of the flatbread was excellent. As directed, I heated the wrap just slightly before using it. Since the name has Agave in it, I was concerned that there would be a sweet flavor to it but there wasn’t a sweet taste at all.
For the next taste test, my husband (who can eat gluten) decided to use the Chimayo Red Chile flatbread to wrap around some barbeque pork. He was kind enough to share a bite with me and it was delicious! He heated the flatbreads in the toaster oven, which worked quite well. It would seem that the Chimayo Red Chile flatbread would work well as an enchilada wrap.
Last but not least, I used the Spinach Garlic Pesto flavored flatbread to make Salmon pin wheels for lunch. I heated the flatbread and let it cool down. Then I spread chive cream cheese on it and laid thinly sliced smoked Salmon on top. I rolled it up tight and sliced it like you do for pin wheels. Well, I’ve got to say that this was my absolute favorite wrap of the three. The flavors in the Spinach Garlic Pesto Sandwich Petals are just perfect together!
The awesome Sandwich Petals are made with ten nutritious grains and they are free of dairy, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, soy and gluten. There is a tiny bit of fish from tuna oil for the omega 3. The grains include buckwheat, sorghum, millet, quinoa (a super food!), teff, amaranth, sesame, tapioca, corn and flax. Each petal contains 3 grams of fiber or 12% of the RDA. The flatbreads are a low glycemic food, helping to maintain proper blood sugar levels.
