Review: Lifeway BioKefir

I am always looking for new on-the-go products that are helpful in kickstarting the recovery process after a hard run or workout.  I usually like to shower before I sit down to have my coffee & eat, but by the time I am finished with all of that, the golden window of opportunity for optimal refueling has passed.  Sitting down to eat a cup of yogurt isn’t a big deal, and I will often choose that option.  However, the new BioKefir shots are an even better option!

The Lifeway Foods BioKefir shots are 3.5 oz each and contain twice the amount of probiotic power found in regular kefir with 20 billion units of probiotic activity.  BioKefir comes in 3 different varieties, each with a specific health benefit:

  • Immunity – Available in Pomegranate / Blueberry &  Kiwi / Passion Fruit
  • Hearth Health -Available in Blackberry & Black Cherry
  • Digestion – Available in Vanilla

More from Lifeway:

What is kefir?  Kefir is a cultured probiotic beverage similar in taste and texture to drinkable yogurt, and made from milk fermented with kefir cultures. Originating over 2000 years ago in the Caucasus Mountains-where many people live well over 100 years-kefir has been associated with a long list of health benefits.

Combining the power of 10 live and active kefir cultures with Lifeway’s exclusive new ProBoost™ – a blend of two powerful probiotic strains clinically proven to support digestion and immunity – there is nothing better for your health.  All of Lifeway’s products are gluten free and 99% lactose free.

I received the blackberry, black cherry and vanilla flavors to sample.  Both the black cherry & blackberry are part of the heart health line, which I thought was appropriate since February is heart health month.  I really liked all three flavors, but black cherry was my favorite.  The BioKefir seems thinner than regular kefir to me.  It has a nice, smooth texture and the 3.5 oz portion is perfect for a quick post-workout boost until I can sit down for breakfast.  Each shot contains 60 calories, 5 grams protein, 10 grams carbs and no fat.  The vanilla also contains 2 grams of fiber.

Lifeway BioKefir can be purchased in grocery stores across the US or online.  There are also coupons for various Lifeway products available for printing by simply signing up for the newsletter.

Have you tried Lifeway BioKefir?  Have you tried any kind of kefir?
