Review: Lucy’s Brownie Bites

There is nothing more exciting than walking down the aisle of my local grocery store and discovering a new gluten-free product!  When I ran into Earth Fare last week for some salad and gluten-free pretzels, I happened upon these new Brownie Bites from Lucy’s.

Yay for new gluten-free products!  Lucy’s makes some pretty darn good cookies, so I had high hopes for the brownies.  Who doesn’t like brownies?  Lucy’s products are made in a dedicated bakery free of gluten, milk, eggs, peanuts and almonds.

Lucy’s products are certified gluten-free by the GFCO, vegan and Kosher.  Up until now, Lucy’s has focused solely on cookies.  The new Brownie Bites come 8 to a box, packaged in pairs – so 4 packages in a box.  Each bite contains 120 calories.  *Note that a serving size is 1 Brownie Bite, or half of a package.  The ingredient list:

Dr. Lucy’s flour blend (gluten free oat flour, garbanzo flour, tapioca, sorghum, and fava flours), organic cane sugar, soy milk, cocoa, canola oil, vanilla extract, baking soda, salt, xanthan gum, potato starch, calcium carbonate, citric acid from non-GMO corn, cellulose gum.

I sat down to enjoy my first taste of Lucy’s Brownie Bites after a light lunch.

The bites are fairly dense, like a fudgy brownie, but not quite as moist.   They have a great chocolaty flavor and one “bite” seemed to be just the right serving size.  The “bite” actually took me 3 or 4 bites to finish.  I think these are a great option for packing in your child’s lunch or for an after school snack.  However, I would separate the package, as I don’t know that eating two at a time is necessary.

It is hard to find good products that are free of multiple allergens, so having the option of Lucy’s Brownie Bites and Cookies is a blessing to many.  Lucy’s Brownie Bites can be found in stores across the US and online.

    I tried these today & sadly I found them a bit too dry & crumbly. I love Lucy’s cookies so I was a bit disappointed.
