This past January, fellow Celiac-Disease.com writer, Tiffany, wrote about new bread products and muffins by Atlanta’s American Gra-Frutti, and now they have even more new products to share.
I first became in love with this company, when I tasted their Peachtree Pimento cheese spread. Being a recent northern transplant to the South, I had no clue what pimento cheese was, and why someone would want to eat cheese made with the red parts found in green olives. To say I was skeptical was an understatement. But after one taste, I was hooked, and now it is a regular staple in my fridge. I like to spread it on crackers, make sandwiches (especially delicious on their bread) or put it into grits. I could even just eat it by the spoonful, that is how much I love it. The spread is available in regular and spicy for an extra kick. I also love how they are a local company, and personally feel strongly about supporting local businesses.
So, when the wonderful people at American Gra-Frutti offered to send me a care package of sample, of their new products, I jumped at the chance. I was giddy when the package arrived and dug right in.
Among their new offerings are:
- Apple Cinnamon Muffins
- Blueberry Muffins
- Cranberry Orange Walnut Muffins
- Artisan Flatbread Crackers
- Cheesestraw Crackers
- Graham Crackers
- Savory Sesame Almond Crackers
- Dinner-sized Loaf of Mutli-Grain Daily Bread
- Dinner-sized Loaf of Flax & Nut Bread
My first impulse was to dig into the Cheesestraw Crackers. Cheese crackers are one thing I definitely miss since going gluten-free, and couldn’t wait to try these. And they did not disappoint. My only suggestion would to have more in a package. My family of three loved these crackers and went through them pretty fast.
We really were fans of all of the crackers, as they all went quickly. I thought the Graham Crackers were delicious on their own – almost like a cookie, but would also make an amazing graham cracker crust. The Savory Almond Crackers had a very unique, savory taste which was right up my alley. And the Artisian Flatbread Crackers reminded me of something that would be served in a nice restaurant along with a delicate dipping sauce, and would be great for a dinner party. The crackers retail for $2.49 – $3.99.
For breakfast, we all had a tasting of the muffins. I have always been an old school, blueberry muffin type of girl, so that is what I tried first. Delicious! The same could be said of the Apple Cinnamon which had juicy chunks of apples in it, and the Cranberry Orange Walnut muffins. A tasty way to start the morning, and also great breakfast item to have for guests. I also appreciated that the muffins weren’t super-sized, but the size of a regular muffin. Please note that the three muffins listed above do contain almonds for those with nut allergies. The muffins retail at $5.99 for a pack of 4.
The breads were equally delicious as the crackers and the muffins, as I have always been a fan whenever I have had a chance to taste the bread from American Gra-Frutti. I could easily eat these breads plain as I could as a sandwich. There aren’t many breads I have tasted that I could say that about, but I truly enjoy eating a slice of this bread plain. Please note that, only their Wholesome White bread (which was not part of this list) is nut-free. The other loaves are all dairy- and soy- free in addition to being gluten-free.
For a complete listing of all American Gra-Frutti products visit here. All of these items are made in a dedicated gluten-free bakery just north of the city of Atlanta. Their products are available at their bakehouse in Marietta and regional Whole Foods Markets and Return to Eden. Not all products may be found at all Whole Foods, but the locations in Buckhead, Merchants Walk and Sandy Springs carry a wider range. MOM’s Organic Market in Maryland also carries some of the American Gra-Frutti products. You may also order them online.
