Review: Sol Sunflower Beverage

Many people who follow the gluten-free diet also omit dairy and turn to non-dairy milks like soy, rice or almond.  Some can’t tolerate those either, or choose not to.  Sunrich Naturals, SoL Sunflower Beverage,  may be just the drink those people are looking for!

SoL come in 3 different varieties: unsweetened, vanilla & original.  Just one serving of the unsweetened contains only 45 calories.  Additionally, each serving contains 50% RDA of Vitamin E, 20% RDA of Folic Acid, 30% RDA of Calcium and 25% RDA of Vitamin D.  As I was perusing the Sunrich Naturals site, I also came across this benefit: “Sunflower seeds are rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals that help neutralize cancer-causing free radicals and slow down signs of aging.”  More about SoL:

Sol™ is the first of its kind – an all-natural beverage crafted using a care-filled
selection of sunflower kernels roasted to perfection. This specialty blend creates
a smooth and refreshing taste sensation that’s a perfect complement to a healthy
lifestyle. Brighten your day with a cool glass of Sol.

Sol will invigorate the shelf-stable non-dairy beverage category, as nut and
seed beverages are the fastest growing items in this category. Sunflower is a great
alternative to soy and rice beverages, and appeals to those consumers that are
looking for variety in their non-dairy beverage category.

I sampled the original flavor.  I normally drink unsweetened almond milk, so I needed to clear my head of any expectations I had for the Sol Sunflower Beverage.  I poured a glass and took a sip.  SoL is creamy & has a great flavor!  I don’t know why I was hesitant to try it, but I am glad that I did!  I have now been adding SoL to my morning coffee & pouring over my afternoon snack bowl of cereal.  Of all of the non-dairy beverages I have tried (soy, rice, almond & now SoL), I would have to say that almond & SoL are among my favorites.  I have never been a fan of rice milk and too much soy milk seems to upset my tummy.

SoL Sunflower Beverage can be found in many health food & Whole Foods stores across the US.  It can also be found on Amazon.com.

Have you tried SoL Sunflower Beverage?  What kind of “milk” do you drink?
