Last week I was contacted by Ann with Stonyfield Organic to see if I would be interested in reviewing the new Stonyfield Organic Activia. I agree and my samples of the new kosher, gluten-free yogurt arrived a few days later. I received both the vanilla & strawberry varieties.
Here is some more information Ann shared with me about the new yogurt:
Stonyfield Introduces Organic Activia
Gluten Free & Kosher with Activia’s Proprietary Bifidus Regularis® Probiotic Cultures!
Londonderry, NH – July 6, 2011 – Organic consumers can now enjoy delicious Stonyfield yogurt plus the exclusive probiotic culture from Activia, the nation’s top proactive health yogurt, thanks to newStonyfield Organic Activia. Available nationally this month, it helps naturally regulate the digestive system when eaten daily for two weeks as part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle, plus it is gluten free and kosher.
“Stonyfield is delighted to give organic consumers an Activia just for them,” said Gary Hirshberg, Stonyfield President and CE-Yo. “Stonyfield Organic Activia delivers all of the health and environmental benefits of organic yogurt plus Activia’s special probiotic culture.”
Organic Activia is made in Stonyfield’s New Hampshire yogurt works from the same certified organic milk as all of Stonyfield’s other yogurts, smoothies, ice cream and milk products. Its special ingredient is a dose of billions of Bifidus Regularis (Bifidobacterium Lactis DN 173-010), an exclusive probiotic culture found only in Activia. Clinical studies show that Bifidus Regularis survives passage through the digestive system and arrives in the gut, which is where Activia provides its benefit.
An Easy Step for Digestive Health
Incorporating probiotics like Stonyfield Organic Activia into your daily food plan is a delicious, easy way to help build digestive health,” said Kate Geagan, M.S., R.D., America’s green nutritionist and author ofGo Green, Get Lean. “Other easy steps to take include eating organic foods whenever possible, exercising regularly, managing stress and hydrating frequently.”
Protect and Restore the Earth
Like all Stonyfield yogurts, Organic Activia is made with certified organic milk and other organic ingredients produced without the use of toxic persistent pesticides, chemical fertilizers, antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones. It’s also made with no artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners. Because Stonyfield believes healthy food can only come from a healthy planet, 10% of the profits from Stonyfield Organic Activia and its other products go to efforts that help protect and restore the Earth. Stonyfield Organic Activia is yet another yogurt that helps Stonyfield support hundreds of organic family farms and keep more than 180,000 agricultural acres in organic production.
Available in Vanilla and Strawberry, one serving of Stonyfield Organic Activia provides 5 grams of protein, plus Calcium and Vitamin D, and is just 90 calories. Look for it starting this month in natural food stores and select grocery stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.19 per four ounce 4-pack.
To be completely honest, I didn’t have high hopes for this yogurt. Not because I don’t like Stonyfield products, though, because I am picky about yogurt. Not only am I picky about the ingredients in the yogurt I eat, but I am very picky on the taste & texture. For this reason, I usually stick with Greek style yogurt. I was impressed with both the vanilla & strawberry flavors of this yogurt. It has a thicker consistency and isn’t runny, one of the things I dislike about some yogurts. The ultimate test was feeding this yogurt to the little boy that I watch every day. He loves yogurt and ate the whole container in about a minute! I can definitely see adding these to my grocery list once my samples run out! I love that one small container has only 90 calories and is the perfect snack size. The probiotics contained in the yogurt is another benefit of choosing this healthy snack.
