Review: Wholesome Chow Lavender Cake

I should probably warn you ahead of time that this post is going to be a lot of gushing about cake.  If I could share the cake with you all, I would do so in a heartbeat.  It is that good! Last summer I was able to sample the Chocolate Cake Mix and ended up fighting Jon for the leftovers.  I was thrilled to learn Wholesome Chow made a Lavender Cake and even more thrilled when I won their “Pin It to Win It” contest and received the cake mix as part of my package!

The cake mix was super-easy to mix and bake.  The mix required 1 1/4 cups of milk, 1 tsp. of apple cider vinegar and 1/4 cup of oil.   The kitchen smelled heavenly and I knew that dessert would be a wonderful treat!  After the cake was done baking and cooled down, I mixed the frosting.  I used almond milk (mainly because I ran out of skim milk) and butter for the frosting.  The frosting had a thick, creamy texture and was just the right amount to frost the cake.

Look how moist that cake looks!  I sat down at the table and took the first bite and I swear I think I died and went to heaven.  The cake has the most wonderful, delicate flavor!  I had a hard time not going back for a second piece!  I cut a couple of pieces to send to Aaron’s co-worker, Lindsey, who also eats gluten-free.   I sent her a quick text message that I was sending her some cake and that it was earth-shattering and life-changing!

Lindsey sent me an email the following day letting me know that she completely agreed with me and needed to know what that flavor was in the cake.  Of course I shared the information with her and made sure to let her know that I also had a Chocolate Lavender Cake Mix to try out soon, too!
