Rudi’s Gluten-Free debuted their gluten-free bread line over 2 years ago in 2010. They have now revamped their sandwich bread so that everyone can enjoy bread that tastes, looks and feels like the real thing. I will use “the real thing” in this post to mean non-gluten-free bread.
More about the “Soft & Yummy Recipe”
Fans will be delighted to find fluffy texture, yummy taste, double the fiber, longer shelf life and the Gluten Free Certification Organization (GFCO) seal of approval, all wrapped up into a loaf made with all-natural, non-GMO ingredients. These revamped Sandwich Breads are sure to please those with celiac disease or gluten-intolerance, as well as those who choose to eat gluten-free to fit into a healthy lifestyle.
I dug right into the Original sandwich bread the day I received my samples in the mail.
The bread definitely feels much softer and more like the real thing. The taste and texture is much improved, but the bread didn’t hold together as well as I would like it to for my turkey and cheese sandwich. Perhaps a peanut butter and jelly sandwich would fare better. Next I sampled the Cinnamon Raisin bread.
I lightly toasted the Cinnamon Raisin bread in the toaster oven and then spread with peanut butter and pumpkin butter. The bread toasted up perfectly and was like a little slice of heaven! The only complaint I have is when I went to remove my bread from the bag the slices stuck together and some pieces broke, making them untoastable. The bread definitely seems softer, but so soft that it breaks is not acceptable.
I sampled the Multigrain bread for lunch on Saturday. I made a turkey and muenster cheese sandwich and it seemed to hold up a little better than the Original version, but I still found that the bread was falling apart towards the end of my sandwich.
Over the next week or so I plan on using the Rudi’s Gluten-Free Sandwich Breads in many different ways so that I can post an update to see if the bread fared better with different sandwich fillings. Toasting the bread definitely seems to help, but the ultimate goal of the perfect gluten-free bread is to be able to make a sandwich using the bread straight from the bag and having it live up to all of your expectations.
