On Sunday, September 13th, the East Florida Celiac Support Group is meeting at the Cape Canaveral Hospital at 1:00 PM. Directions are posted on the groups website. This news comes from Mike Jones who manages the website for the group.
Over in Huntsville, AL, The North Alabama Gluten Intolerance Group will meet Saturday, September 19th, at 4:00 p.m. at the following location across from Huntsville Hospital. Please note that this group normally meets the fourth weekend of the month.
Dowdle Center, 109 Governors Drive, Huntsville, AL
The group will meet in Room 131 or nearby. Anyone interested in celiac disease or gluten sensitivity is welcome to attend. This information was provided by Shirley Holt who runs that group.
Last but not least for September, the Middle Georgia GIG group will also meet on September 19th. Their topic for the meeting is “What to do about breakfast”. Directions are posted on the group’s website. Carol Hinton runs that much needed group in Central Georgia.
Below is the group’s mission statement, which I particularly like because it states they are educating medical professionals – and we all know many in that profession need some serious education about celiac disease and gluten intolerance.
Our mission is to increase awareness by providing current, accurate, information, and education, as well as support to persons with gluten intolerance diseases, such as celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis, their families, health care professionals and the general public in the Middle Georgia area.
Though it’s not in September, the most exciting event to hit the Southeast this Fall is the famous Atlanta Metro Celiacs GF Vendor Fair. The event is October 17th in Roswell, GA. Please check the group’s website for complete details.
I’ll be profiling my favorite vendors that are attending this incredible event in an article here in early October. If there is any way you can make it to Atlanta that weekend, the event will not disappoint! The only bad thing about it is that by 10:30 AM you’ll be full of fabulous gluten-free food and you will still have over 80% of the show to see. There is absolutely nothing like going to a gluten-free vendor fair. It’s like being in a dream that you never want to wake up from!
I’ve heard that the vendor fair in Suffolk County, NY was the best in the country. We’d love to hear from our readers that have attended any gluten-free vendor fair – or those headed to the AMC event next month!
NOTE: Atlanta Metro Celiacs recently converted to being a member of the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America, or GIG. They were previously a member of the Celiac Sprue Association.
