Starfish Products Releases Gluten Free Seafood Line

I just ran across this press release over at Market Watch and wanted to pass it along to our readers, for those of you that like seafood.  

Starfish, a subsidiary of Pacific Seafood Group based in Mukilteo, Wash., has introduced a new line of all-natural and gluten-free crispy battered wild harvested seafood products. Starfish expanded their popular crispy battered line of wild fish to include a gluten-free version of the halibut, cod and haddock offerings, providing the same quality, flavor and value, without scrimping on taste.

Starfish expanded its product line due to an increasing consumer demand for gluten-free products. Millions of Americans have celiac disease and as a result cannot eat gluten, a generic name for certain types of insoluble proteins contained in common cereal grains such as wheat, barley, rye and other derivatives. Many believe a gluten-free diet can help relieve symptoms on various ailments including chronic intestinal complaints and in the treatment of autism, schizophrenia, chronic fatigue, multiple sclerosis, attention deficit disorder, migraine and fertility problems.
“We saw a lack of quality gluten-free offerings in the seafood category more than three years ago, and began to develop a gluten-free batter for those with celiac disease,” said Bob O’Bryant, Starfish general manager. “Our goal was to provide quality products that are healthy – and taste good.”
The response from consumers has been enthusiastic, with many Starfish consumers preferring the gluten-free Starfish crispy battered products to the conventional wheat-based batters.

Starfish’s gluten-free crispy battered products are available nationally at Whole Foods and numerous independent grocers.
