As I am on my Thanksgiving shopping trip today…what does my eye spy at my local Trader Joe’s….Udi’s!! I am strolling by the fresh bread section, which I normally walk by without a second glance, but decided I would look at it closely today, and first, I saw a shelf full of Udi’s gluten-free bagels, and next their bread, white and whole grain. I could hardly believe it.
Udi’s gluten-free bread has become quite the phenomenon in the gluten-free community. Obviously everyone has their own personal choice about their favorite bread, but Udi’s seems to have outdone them all, with the soft breads, bagels, muffins and pizza crusts. Once I tried Udi’s, shortly after being diagnosed with celiac, it is really difficult for me to eat anything else. The fact that Udi’s is now at Trader Joe’s makes it even more amazing, because now it is easier to find and I don’t have to plan my week around when I can get to a store that carries it. And get this…what is even better, is that it was being sold for less than I have seen it in other stores at $4.99. Kim wrote a review about Udi’s bagels that came out this year and are amazing, and feel the same as eating the gluten-filled versions.
As I laid my eyes on this gluten-free carb-filled wonder, there was a Trader Joe’s employee there and I asked him if they were going to have the pizza crusts as well, and he said that the more people who ask, the more likely they will. He also said that all the employees tested the bread and were impressed by it. He also mentioned something about that Trader Joe’s may end up carrying the bread as a private label. Now this is not confirmed by anyone, just what I heard from chatting in the stores aisles, but that would be a great thing if it did happen!
In the past year Udi’s has made huge strides with their gluten-free products and it seems they are definitely going to continue to grow. We can now get sandwiches made with Udi’s gluten-free bread at Jason’s Deli’s across the country; find them at mainstream grocery stores; and at University campuses, it makes being gluten-free so much easier and happier.
You can search the Udi’s web site to find a location near you selling their amazing products.

Get out! I’m not so excited about the price because Udi’s is less at the store I shop at (Natural Foods Warehouse) BUT I’ll gladly pay more if I can buy Udi’s off the shelf instead of the freezer without driving all the way into town. Woo hoo! This is really something to be thankful for. Thanks for the news, Anne!
For intown it is cheaper for me, but I know out of the city there are cheaper places, but once I factor in gas and mileage, it would be the same, for me.
