Washington Nationals Hold Celiac Awareness Night

Sorry I didn’t notice this until today.   It looks like last Saturday (August 16, 2008), the Washington Nationals, which are a Major League Baseball (MLB) team, held a Celiac Awareness Night.

According to reports, it looks like the event was a huge success and hundreds of people with Celiac Disease were able to enjoy several gluten free foods and a baseball game.  Foods included were: soft pretzels, ice cream cones, four types of chili, fish tacos, loaded nachos, margaritas and Redbridge beer.

The Washington Nationals played the NFCA’s public service announcement featuring CNN Newsroom Anchor Heidi Collins. For 30 seconds the whole ball park learned about celiac disease, symptoms and how they can get tested. It was a great night for celiacs!

With close to 90% of people with Celiac not knowing they have the disease, hopefully this information was useful to some people and will push them to get tested.
