Panera Bread’s Gluten-Free Menu

Last Updated on March 14, 2023 by the Celiac-Disease.com Staff

Being someone who makes much of his living from home on the internet, I’ve always found that going out and working in public can be satisfying at times. In order to do this, I simply need my laptop and a wireless internet connection (WiFi).

Probably my favorite place to “work” while out in public has to be Panera Bread. They offer a very relaxing atmosphere, and they have a number of great gluten-free items on their menu, making for an affordable and productive work environment.

While researching what Panera menu items are gluten-free, I was able to confirm the following should be okay to consume (though I still recommend making sure they are aware of your dietary needs to avoid cross-contamination!):

Official Website Menu Information: Panera Bread Gluten-Free Menu
Location Finder: Find a Panera Bread Location Near You

Below we’ve collected what foods are currently safe to eat at Panera Bread for your convenience:

Panera’s Gluten-Free Menu

**Note: Although we do our very best to meet your special requirements, we cannot rule out the possibility of cross-contact between these items and gluten-containing foods in our bakery cafe.**

**Note: Gorgonzola and bleu cheeses are commonly made with mold incubated on wheat. Some may choose to avoid these cheeses for this reason and you may substitute another cheese if you prefer. Items containing these ingredients are indicated below with (G) or (BC).**

Salads including the Salad Dressing (source of modified food starch is corn):

  • Greek Salad Fandango Salad (G)
  • Caesar Salad (without croutons)
  • Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad (without croutons)
  • Mediterranean Salmon Salad
  • Salmon Caesar Salad (without croutons)
  • Asian Sesame Chicken Salad (without Won Ton noodles)
  • Classic Cafe Salad
  • Strawberry Poppyseed Salad
  • Strawberry Poppyseed Salad with Chicken
  • Fuji Apple Chicken Salad (G)
  • California Mission Chicken Salad
  • Orchard Harvest Chicken Salad (G)
  • Chopped Chicken Cobb Salad (G)

  • Creamy Tomato (without croutons)
  • Low-Fat Vegetarian Southwest
  • Tomato & Roasted Corn
  • Turkey Chickpea Chili
  • Summer Corn Chowder
  • Low-Fat Chicken Tortilla Soup

Salad Dressings:

  • Balsamic Vinaigrette
  • Caesar
  • Greek
  • Poppyseed
  • Raspberry Vinaigrette
  • Asian Sesame Vinaigrette
  • White Balsamic Vinaigrette
  • Roasted Garlic & Meyer’s Lemon Vinaigrette
  • BBQ Ranch

Beverages:

  • Coffee
  • Juice, both apple, and orange
  • Lemonade
  • Milk
  • Soda, fountain, and bottled
  • Tea, regular, and Chai Tea
  • All lattes & Frozen beverages
  • Strawberry Smoothie
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Pumpkin Spice Latte
  • Gingerbread Latte
  • Panera Bread Potato Chips

As always, when dining out gluten-free, do your due diligence and make sure the staff understands your needs. There are very few restaurants that are 100% gluten-free, so cross-contamination is always a risk. If you don’t feel comfortable with what you are hearing from the staff, perhaps it is best to dine elsewhere.

Subway’s Gluten-Free Menu

Last Updated on March 14, 2023 by the Celiac-Disease.com Staff

These days it seems like a Subway restaurant is about as difficult to find as a McDonald’s restaurant! I seriously have 4 Subway restaurants within one mile of my workplace (not joking!).

Wouldn’t it be great if Subway offered gluten-free foods? Unfortunately, as their focus is on bread and the insane amount of cross-contamination possibilities, we are pretty much out of luck.

Location Finder: Find a Subway Location Near You

A quick browsing over the most current version of the document shows that many of the salads appear to be gluten-free. With the exceptions of the Seafood Sensation, Meatball Marinara, and Sweet Onion Teriyaki Chicken, all the other salads are safe (assuming they care to avoid cross-contamination).

If you decide to try a Subway salad, you’ll want to make sure you tell them to hold the croutons.  Oh, and as for the salad dressings, the only one which appears to contain gluten is the “Atkins Sweet as Honey Mustard,” so you’ll want to avoid that as well!

Have you ever tried eating at a Subway since being diagnosed with Celiac Disease?

Burger King’s Gluten-Free Menu

Last Updated on March 14, 2023 by the Celiac-Disease.com Staff

While out on the go, finding a gluten-free fast food meal can often be difficult. Throughout most of the country, there seems to be a McDonald’s or Burger King on just about every corner, making those both desirable places to have gluten-free options.

Below we’ve collected what foods are currently safe to eat at Burger King for your convenience:

Burger King’s Gluten-Free Menu

We’ve put some time into trying to obtain a complete Burger King gluten-free menu but haven’t gotten anything official yet. It seems that big corporations like Burger King have legal departments which won’t allow them to confirm much (if anything) is in fact gluten-free.

That leaves us to dig through their ingredient information on their official website.  So far the only items we’ve been able to confirm are in fact gluten-free are the following:

  • Tendergrill Garden Salad (bring your own dressing)
  • French Fries (these are naturally gluten-free, but confirm your location uses a dedicated fryer!)
  • Pop/ sodas and milk

That is based upon the information available in Burger King’s official ingredient list (PDF) and allergens list.

Unfortunately, this is not a very extensive list, leaving a lot to be desired for someone on a gluten-free diet. If you are forced to eat fast food, give Wendy’s a try, or McDonald’s if that is the only alternative in your area.
