Note: Please be advised that although we strive to keep this list as accurate and up-to-date as possible, this list is NOT an all-inclusive list and is intended to be used by the Celiac community as a resource. Drug ingredients are regularly changing and generic versions of gluten-free drugs may not be gluten-free, so confirm with your pharmacist before trying any new medications.

Thank you for this list! I wanted to let you know that MonoNessa (generic for Ortho Cyclen) by Watson is gluten free and the company was very responsive.

Maty’s Healthy Products offers OTC gluten free cough syrup for cough & flu season

Levoxyl is NOT gluten free! I was on it and still getting sick I finally called Pizer Company and they said NO it is not gluten free and who told me it was. Since I have switched to a known gf throid I am having no problems, You need to take that drug off your list of gluten free drugs, so people like me don’t think we are getting a gf med…….
D says
Levoxyl BRAND name IS GF… Been on it for 5yrs. I have celiac disease…. maybe something else was the cause for you.
shirley says

Hi Kim,
Just because a pharmacist is listing it does not mean it is gluten free. I have had plenty of problems with pharmacists not understanding what gluten is and how to identify it in medication.

I was just switched from VIcodin by Watson to Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen by Norco. I search by hydrocodone and Norco wasn’t sure if this new med is gluten-free. Please advise. I don’t want to take if it has gluten. Thanks.
Kimberly Bouldin says
Kathy,
I can’t find any information on the new med you mentioned. Short of calling Norco, I don’t know what else to suggest. Perhaps a different pharmacy can provide a version that is verified to be gluten-free?

I was recently prescribed cyclobenzaprine made by Qualitest Pharms. and Iam having a celiac reaction to it. I looked it up and what I have found is that it contains gluten. I contacted my Pharmacy and they called Qualitest and stated that It is gluten free. But Im having a reaction to it. I have a severe reaction very sensitive to a trace amount of gluten. I dont understand if they state its Gluten free then why am I having a celaic reaction.

Please note that the above list “Is Not UP To Date”. I just checked with the following pharmacutical companies (Watson, Mallinckrodt) for Hydrocodone/APAP and both companies have confirmed that they “Can Not” guarantee that this medication is gluten free. The reason for this is that they get certain supplies from other suppliers and they can’t guarantee that they use gluten free practices during their manufacturing process to guarantee the ingredients are gluten free.
Best way to avoid getting sick is to find out which manufacturers your pharmacist uses as their supplier and then call the manufacturer. These changes can happen on a month to month basis especially if the pharmacutical company can get the supplies cheaper from another supplier which may turn out to not be gluten free.
Suzie says

Advil liqui gels plus others are not gf in Canada. The filler ingredients are determined by what’s available & cheapest at the time. This is the case for all non certified gf medications by most companies.

I called the Allegra manuf to ask if G-Free. They said ,”We cannot guarantee that it is gluten free.” My pharmacist was shocked at this, but glad I told him. Stabilizers in many pills are where the gluten is: it’s to maintain dryness and preserve the pill.
L says
Hi, the binders and starches in the regular Allegra 180 (only) uses Corn gluten, not wheat or any other gluten. I am severely reactive and take Allegra daily. Most companies cannot guarantee, I always ask them to check the ingredient list and check the “starch” source or whatever other gluten-type ingredient source I may see on the list. I hope that helps! “)

Zenzedi (dextroamphetamine IR, Arbor Pharmaceuticals), is gluten-free. I contacted the manufacturer. None of the generic manufacturers would confirm that they are gluten-free, and having tried them all, and having had bad reactions, I would avoid any other brands than the premium brands in city if you have ADHD, narcolepsy come or anything else that requires you to take dextroamphetamine.
Vyvanse is also gluten-free according to the manufacturer and I’ve had no problem taking that for years
Leonard Oatman says
