Keurig K-Cup Coffees – Are They Gluten-free?

Do you start your day out with a Cup-O-Joe?  I do.  There is nothing better than sitting down to catch up on email & blog posts while drinking my first cup of coffee of the morning.  Even when I am only drinking decaf, there is something about the hot coffee that makes it all okay.  Of course coffee itself is gluten-free. Where complications may arise is with the flavored coffees.

After receiving a new Keurig for my birthday last week, I couldn’t wait to dig into my sample pack of K-cups.  While most of the K-Cups were just different brands of coffee in the cups – such as Caribou, Green Mountain & Tully’s, there were a few flavored varieties in the box.  I went to the Keurig/Green Mountain website to see if there was any information on the flavored coffees and didn’t find any, so I sent an email.  This is the email I received back:

Hi Kimberly,
Thank you for your message. Our Coffee, Café Escapes, hot cider, cocoa and teas are gluten free. For further detail on the nutritional information for our coffees, you may visit on our website. Each of the Perfect Iced Teas, Hot Cocoa and Café Escapes items has specific nutritional information under ?Tasting Notes?. The Nutritional label can be viewed in the product images. Please let us know if you need anything further. If you have any questions, or if there is anything else we can assist you with please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Care Team.

I did write back to confirm that this included the flavored coffees and was assured that it did.  I was thrilled to hear this and couldn’t wait to get to sampling! Keurig has a wide variety of coffees, teas and cocoas that can be purchased on their website, at Kohl’s (where you can use the 30% off coupon) and Costco.

Do you have a Keurig?  What is your favorite K-Cup variety?

  1. We love our Keurig coffee too! Every time Gluten-Free Living looks into the gluten-free status of most flavored coffee, we find it is gluten free.
Like you, I love getting the 30 percent off coupon so I can stock up on K-cups from Kohl’s. They did recently raise the price, even when the cups are on sale, but it’s still a pretty good deal.

  2. Christie Towns says:

According to Keurigs website not all the coffees are gluten free. This is what I found:

All of the coffees offered in K-Cup® portion packs are gluten and gluten byproduct-free. The Café Escapes French Vanilla Café-au-Lait K-Cup® portion pack contains small amounts of wheat. The Timothy’s Lemon Blueberry Tea K-Cup® portion pack contains malted oats.

    • Christie,

Thank you for sharing that. I was unable to find either of those products listed on their site. I wonder if they are currently making them or if they are retired? I am going to email my contact and ask her about those. I will make sure to share what I find out.

I just called green mountain and keurig, and got the run around. One minute they tell me that all the K cups are gluten free then they said the French vanilla has wheat in it and the some of the teas have malt and oats. I get transferred and the lady was super rude to me on the phone and starts talking over me, and said all are gluten free. Well that funny that the last person jus told me there is gluten in several of the products. I am so beyond frustrated with people. I have a severe condition and its a pain in the butt to call the manufacturer, but then you cant get your knowledge and crap together KEURIG! will not use your products, it is not worth my health over your mistakes

  8. Craig says:

Thanks for the info. It was just what I needed this morning.
