Jimmy John’s Gluten-Free Menu

Last Updated on January 1, 2024 by the Celiac-Disease.com Staff

Typically when it comes to restaurants that serve sub sandwiches, it is usually best to stay away from these types of stores altogether as cross-contamination is such a huge concern. However, after reading a few different testimonials on message boards from people who have successfully eaten a gluten-free meal at a Jimmy John’s restaurant, I decided to look a little more into when foods they offer that are gluten-free.

A quick browse of their official website does not show any gluten-free menu, so I decided to contact them. Here is the list they sent me:

Jimmy John’s Gluten-Free Menu

Confirmed Gluten-Free Foods:

  • Bacon
  • Beef
  • Ham
  • Capicola
  • Salami
  • Turkey

Interestingly enough, they also went out of their way to point out that their cheese is NOT gluten-free (this is one of the few products Celiacs can usually rely on to be gluten-free at restaurants).

As always, when dining out gluten-free, do your due diligence and make sure the staff understands your needs. There are very few restaurants that are 100% gluten-free, so cross-contamination is always a risk. If you don’t feel comfortable with what you are hearing from the staff, perhaps it is best to dine elsewhere.

Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Gluten-Free Menu

Last Updated on March 14, 2023 by the Celiac-Disease.com Staff 19 Comments

Looking for a nice gluten-free meal at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)? Well, to make a long story short, good luck! Despite their recent menu revision which includes grilled chicken items, they still do NOT offer any type of gluten-free chicken. So, what do they offer?

According to a representative with KFC, the following few items are confirmed to be gluten-free (not all items are available at every KFC location):

Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Gluten-Free Menu

  • Green Beans
  • Potato Salad
  • Seasoned Rice
  • Jalapeno peppers
  • Corn

Note: mashed potatoes with or without gravy contain gluten.

It is a shame as the grilled chicken could have easily been made gluten-free, exposing their product to a large community of consumers that currently can’t or won’t go there.

Outback Steakhouse’s Gluten-Free Menu

Last Updated on December 31, 2023 by the Celiac-Disease.com Staff

For those fortunate members of the Celiac Disease community who have an Outback Steakhouse in their area, this restaurant has long been a popular destination due to their knowledge of the gluten-free diet and their gluten-free menu.  So, how did all this come about?

Tiffany James recently published a fun article over at The Examiner celebrating the 1-year anniversary of the gluten-free Bloomin’ Onion, a food that the restaurant has long been known for. The post then goes on to share the story of how the bloomin’ onion and the rest of Outback’s gluten-free menu came about.

Here is an excerpt from Tiffany’s post:

The original batter was made from cornstarch which was very good but not exceptional. Cornstarch batter doesn’t taste like wheat flour batter, of course. The proprietor of this Outback location is Tom Propp who does not want to serve anything mediocre to his customers. He experimented with gluten-free flours and products until he found just the right combination.

Once the batter was perfect, Tom started making things other than fried shrimp. Chicken fingers came next and finally the world famous Bloomin’ Onion. After these creations were sampled by a few discriminating gluten-free diners, Tom had no choice but to invest in a dedicated gluten-free fryer. Needless to say this was a big investment but one that Tom has never regretted for a moment.

Tom Propp is a bit of a perfectionist regarding the food he sends out to the dining room so it was no surprise that he took time perfecting all the new gluten-free dishes for his expanded gluten-free menu. To date it includes –  Mac-n-Cheese, No Rules Pasta, Toowamba Pasta, Kookaburra Wings, Bushman ‘Shrooms, Gold Coast Coconut Shrimp, Fried Chicken Tenders and the now world famous gluten-free Bloomin’ Onion. Of course the normal gluten-free menu is also available and it’s full of many delicious gluten-free selections, including the decadent Thunder From Down Under chocolate dessert. This Outback location even stocks four gluten-free beers and gluten-free buns for burgers and sandwiches – made complete with gluten-free fries!

What is your favorite gluten-free menu item that Outback offers?

Olive Garden Gluten-Free Restaurant Menu

Last Updated on January 12, 2024 by the Celiac-Disease.com Staff

Traveling to Olive Garden in the near future and wondering what gluten-free options might be able to you? According to Olive Garden’s website, they strive to make everyone feel at home and serve a full menu of genuine Italian favorites. Now, even those with gluten intolerance can feel a part of the experience!

Apparently, Olive Garden has prepared a number of its specialty dishes without gluten and posted a gluten-free menu on its website. Unfortunately, at this time, they do not offer any of their pasta dishes with a gluten-free option, but hopefully, in the future, they will offer this (or buy some Tinkyada to serve?). Here is what is gluten-free on their current menu:

Olive Garden Gluten-Free Menu

Salads

  • The garden fresh salad and caesar salad can be prepared without croutons, or with croutons on the side.

Entrees (All served with vegetables on the side)

  • Steak Toscano. Simply cooked with herbs and extra-virgin olive oil. I have had this and it was delicious.
  • Pork Filettino. Marinated in olive oil and rosemary. This is a very pleasant meal and quite filling.
  • Herb-Grilled Salmon. Grilled with olive oil and herbs, my standby selection.
  • Mixed Grill. Steak and chicken skewers brushed with herbs and olive oil. All chicken is an option.

Children’s Menu

  • There is a grilled chicken plate offered with smaller portions if your child is gluten intolerant.
